MEDITE PREMIER IN MORE LONDON FOR AWARD-WINNING NORTON ROSE
17th December 2008 - Medite Premier
Medite Premier, part of Medite Europe's extensive range of high quality MDF, has played a key role in the provision of self-contained, “pod” style meeting rooms at the offices of leading international legal practice Norton Rose. Their new London headquarters, housed at the 13 acre award-winning business estate, More London, recently won British Council for Offices (BCO) regional and national 2008 awards for Fit Out of Workplace.
The new development, situated on the bank of the Thames close to London Bridge station, was designed by Foster & Partners and incorporates offices, restaurants, shops, and a hotel and health club. Overlooking London Bridge and the Tower of London, the prestigious new Norton Rose headquarters is over 30,000m2, consisting of nine floors of office accommodation around a central atrium in a client-oriented design.
The self-contained meeting rooms, each providing space of around 100m2, are enclosed by curved, panelled walls made from Medite Premier MDF, which were produced and installed by architectural joinery specialist, Taylor Made Joinery Interiors Limited.
To achieve the wall curvature required, TMJ Interiors glued and laminated 3mm thick sheets of Medite Premier to build up a total panel thickness of 18mm. The laminated sections were then bag pressed around a shaped, polystyrene moulder to achieve the precise curve required, resulting in immensely strong curved panels that were cut, bored and routed to meet the wide variety of requirements. For the flat panels used in the walls, standard 18mm thickness Medite Premier MDF was specified.
The mirror-smooth surface properties of Medite Premier enhance the use of all types of finishes; in this case, a grey-coloured Page lacquer also provided the required flame-retardant levels. The BCO judging panel for the Fit Out award had high praise in particular for the meeting rooms, break-out spaces and the client terrace which overlooks the riverside public piazza.
