BRE Global’s Director of Materials, Paul Gibbon, presents Environmental Profile Certificate to Medite.

14th November 2008 - Medite Europe

At this year's Medite 2016 Wood Futures – Countdown to Zero conference, BRE's Director of Materials, Paul Gibbon was delighted to present Joe Kennedy, Managing Director of Medite Europe Ltd, and part of Coillte, with their Environmental Profile Certificate.

Paul Gibbon says, “As an industry we need to make sure that products and services we use make as little impact on the environment as possible. This is why Life Cycle Analysis is so important and we are pleased that companies like Medite are going down the Environmental Profile Certification route.”

Geoff Rhodes, Marketing and Business Development Director of Coillte Panel Products commented “Our vision and our values have led us to where we are today, and receiving our Life Cycle Analysis Certificate for the work we have done with BRE Global, which included the environmental profiling of our entire MDF product range, is of vital importance to us and our customers.”

Medite MDF is over 30 years old, and for the last 25 of those, Medite has produced MDF at its manufacturing facility in Clonmel in Ireland. In November 2006, Coillte, the Irish forest and forest products company, acquired Medite from Weyerhaeuser for €66m - Coillte's largest acquisition to date - creating a new division within Coillte: Coillte Panel Products. Now a powerful player in Europe's composite board arena, and the fact that its panel product brands have Forest Stewardship Council environmental certification, Coillte Panel Products delivers strong messages to specifiers - from builders' providers to architects and designers - about the sustainability and suitability of its products.

BRE has run the Certified Environmental Profile scheme since 2001. Environmental Profiles provide standardised, reliable and independent information about building materials and components. They measure the environmental performance of materials and products over their entire lifecycle from their extraction, processing and manufacture, through installation, use and maintenance to their eventual disposal. They also provide information on the key issues related to environmental sustainability.

Full details of the scheme, including details of how to apply and a list of certificated companies is be available at www.greenbooklive.com
