NEW NETHERLANDS TRAINING CENTRE GETS OVAL OFFICE

A ‘building within a building' was the idea behind the oval reception unit in new regional Aventus training centre (ROC) in the Netherlands. ROC Aventus was created with a vision of space for development within an open and accessible building, and a keen eye for the practical issues which come with a new facility housing 17,000 students on more than 200 different training courses.

Found at a prominent location in the centre of the complex and immediately adjacent to a 200 metre long walkway - the backbone of the building - the detached, oval shaped reception office has an overhang and horizontal section which enable it to accommodate many functions. Medite FR MDF (flame retardant) and Medite Premier form the basis for the structural and decorative construction in which high pressure laminate (HPL) provide the red finish and wood grain motif.

Interieurarchitectuur van der Zwaag, responsible for the design of the interior including the walkway, staff canteen, training and professional practice rooms, as well as the central reception desk, created an inviting and welcoming atmosphere for the entrance. “The oval shaped reception unit in the interior walkway is an eye-catching presence in the middle of the taut building architecture,” says Karin van der Zwaag. “The unit protrudes halfway into the walkway so that nobody can miss this introduction to the building! The red colour immediately attracts attention and is warm and inviting.”

MDF is by far the most suitable material for converting ambitious visual designs into custom-made interiors. The ROC oval front desk was created using Medite Premier and Medite FR, the original Flame Retardant MDF proven to Euro Class B & C classifications*; an important specification for the reception unit with its central location within a busy education facility.
