ENTIRE MEDITE RANGE CARB 2 COMPLIANT

10th December 2009 - IMMEDIATE NEWS RELEASE

Medite - part of the panel products division of Coillte, the Irish forestry and forest products company - has long been at the forefront of ‘low formaldehyde' innovation in Europe.

Following a €15 million investment in new technology and equipment to improve MDF production facilities and refiner capabilities at its plant in Clonmel in Ireland, as well as meeting the E1 European standard, from January 2010 all Medite products will be tested and approved as being fully CARB 2 compliant; more than a year before the CARB 2 regulation becomes compulsory in the US.

Director innovation, Joe Kennedy, says “Customers who use Medite in their products will have the automatic assurance that it is in compliance with CARB 2 standards. This is a massive achievement for the technical and production teams at Medite.”

Pat Beardmore, Medite's operations director, added “With months of research and development behind us, Medite has progressed to a stage where from January 2010, all Medite products will be CARB 2 compliant. They will also carry the relevant identification associated with this rigorous standard. As a result of our ongoing commitment to produce products which comply with a range of international standards, we are continuing in our objective to make the sustainable and responsible choice easier for our customers. This is a big step forward and a great way for us to start 2010.”

Medite is a pioneer of low formaldehyde emission panels. In 1987 it introduced Medite E1 and subsequently launched ‘Medite Ecologique', a specialist zero-added formaldehyde product which, since its introduction, has been widely specified for environmentally sensitive interior applications such as museums, laboratories, art galleries and schools.

Geoff Rhodes, Coillte Panel Product's marketing and business development director says that in the future, CARB 2 will become an important issue for the specification of MDF. “Going forward in 2010, CARB 2 is a growing and indeed crucial issue for international MDF procurement. Offering Medite's whole range as CARB2 compliant, regardless of which products are required, is an important differentiator. The specification of CARB2 MDF from Medite will now be much simpler.” For details of the full range of MDF available from Medite, visit www.medite-europe.com .
